Applause for shopworkers

In these difficult times we rely heavily on our NHS, however maybe we could spare a thought for shopworkers who not only continue to serve us at increased risk to themselves but also can become the butt of abuse from shoppers, i was talking to a checkout lady in tesco the other day and she told me about members of the public becoming irate at not being allowed to purchase more than three of any one item, i also witnessed one guy in iceland complaining loudly about the enforcement of the two meter distance rules, i myself have always been a bit anti establishment and anti strictures from politicians, however this is a matter of life and death and i fully understand the role these rules could have in keeping people safe and will continue to observe them even if others question their validity.

I worked at a high end retailer for around 5 years and, since then I came to realise just what shopworkers have to put up with.

Whilst we had some really nice customers, we also had some awful ones. Very often they spoke to you as if you were something they'd trodden in!

Since then I've always had the utmost respect for them.

As I said on the other post, the no ones going to tell me what to do brigade  and there's a lot of them. What I would do if I were on the tills or management of a store having to deal with those constant difficult customers is, I would point to the CCTV cameras in the store and say "When this is all over, we won't forget your contribution".

Remember the saying "A countries population is 3 square meals away from anarchy". Whilst you have selfish s*ds stockpiling, even though they have plenty of stuff at home, a fair share out system is difficult to police, after all someone who appears to be having more than is needed in their shopping trolley may in fact be shopping for an elderly person or persons as well as themselves, who's to judge?

Totally agree about being abusive to shop workers, it's not called for.

People are stressed, but taking it out on shop workers or anyone else is not on.
They tell us there is no shortage of anything but the policy is these days not to hold as much stock. Maybe the answer is then, to hold more stock if there is available space and carry on limiting how much people are buying.

Had they been keeping up with the news they would have surely sussed out what we were heading for?
China was in a mess, there were warning signs - this attitude some have got of ' they are making it look worse has backfired hasn't it'

I haven't been out to shop for two weeks now, granddaughter brought us a few items but we are ok.

Our Parish has had £1000.00 from the Parish Council to help support people and the NEDDC along with Rykneld staff are offering support in various ways for those who  are isolating, we are in hard times but if anyone is desperate for shopping sign up to Derbyshires helpline and don't take it out on the shop staff!

Both of my neighbours are working and they were having problems getting stuff so i was able to get them some tinned food and loo rolls which by the time they could shop would always be sold out, on a lighter note and i know it is wrong of me to find it funny, but when the british public were going mad buying up bog rolls, at the same time the americans were panic buying assault rifles, i can only surmise that the americans had already stocked up on bog rolls and the assault rifles were there to protect their stash of them
