Is it possible to close a Hotmail account?

Is their anyway to close a Hotmail account down? The reason I ask is I keep getting strange messages from people who I don't know the messages themselves are of odd nature. I had a similar problem before but was told that it was not possible to close a Hotmail account down so had to set up a new email address . Any ideas?

Alternatively, buy a domain name, eg www.whocantell.co.uk, this way you get an endless supply of email addresses you can use/delete/block at will. All pointing to one single email address you use the most.
EG.
admin@whocantell.co.uk
blablabla@....
thedogsdoodles@........
sales@..............

Plus you can stick a simple personal website on the domain  (y)
