Whilst driving towards Brimington up Wheeldon Mill this afternoon I noticed the canal water level looked rather low, so I parked up and went to have a nosy. The padlock on one of the sluice gates at the Newbridge Lane Lock had been smashed by vandals sometime yesterday evening/night, and the sluice gate left open all night allowing thousands of gallons of water to flow away  from the canal between Tupton Lock, and Newbridge Lane Lock leaving it almost empty today.
A Derbyshire County Council worker I spoke to at the canal said the impact on wildlife should be minimal if any at all thankfully.
Mindless vandalisn strikes again  ::)
