Stream/Brook at Ravenside
« on: June 13, 2015, 01:31:33 PM »
When I walked down Park Road close to Ravenside retail park I crossed over a stream/brook.  Can anybody tell me its name please?

Its the River Hipper.

Comes into Chesterfield at Somersal Park (from Holymoorside) - runs parallel with Chatsworth Road to Queens Park. The goes under Park Road and round the back of Ravenside/B&Q and across the roundabout and joins the River Rother near Markham Works.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Thanks Pete.

When I looked on google maps I interpreted it as being the Holme Brook but my mrs said it was the Hipper.

Its a bit of an area of contention Fuppet - different maps refer to different stretches of rivers by different names, but the established convention is River Hipper flows in from the west and is joined by Holme Brook under Boythorpe Road and then on to the confluence with the Rother where the Hipper ends.

I walked the Hipper from Somersal to Boythorpe Road last year - have a look.

We hope to walk the whole length this year right up meeting with the Rother.

Does anyone know the source or other manifestation of the covered streamlet in Morrison's car park? This must join the Hipper somewhere in the region of the old Robbos factory complex (if it is flowing that way ...). It has a fish statue on the cover

Its the Hipper - if you watch the movie above you will see it go under Walton Road and Morrisons car park.
