Where's this Church
« on: May 17, 2015, 10:06:07 AM »
This photo was taken around 1905, my grandfather is one of the children sat on the wall.
Unfortunately we don't know where the Church was at first we thought it was ST John's in Tupton but it's not, someone said North Wingfield but I don't think it is.
We will never know!!

Any idea why one of the faces is blurred out if you don't mind me asking?

The picture wasn't in good shape Fly and a relative cleaned it up the best he could, made a pretty good job of it as well, but unfortunately the little ones face  still couldn't be made clear enough to see.

My grandfathers family moved here from Gloucester and the Church may be there but as we don't know the exact date it was taken it remains a mystery.

I thought it might be Brimington Pam but on closer inspection it seems quite a bit smaller that Brimington. I will look through my old postcards and see if that gives any clues. Lovely image though.

I've checked out the Old Tupton Chapel today and it's definitely not that.
I have contacted Gloucester Local History Society and had a prompt reply back asking me to email the two photographs for them to check if  the photo's were taken 'before' my great grand parents moved here.
Fingers crossed.  ;)

When I email them I'll give the area they lived in as well Fly.
The lady who replied said she would take them to the AGM meeting which is coming up, for others to check them out, which I think is very kind of her.

o.k. OC here goes....

Have just spent about 40 minutes on this and I'm 90% sure I've got the right one {bearing in mind most churches were of a similar design}

I adopted the "spot the difference" way like in the magazine picture quizzes only I used "spot the similarities" and came up with this,

Snowshill village church {in the Cotswolds}

If I'm right I'll have a pint thanks.......
I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.

Ohhh blimey the Cotswolds eh. That's interesting as the family originally came from Gloucester. Not sure how far that would be from the Cotswolds but great grandad did have a horse and cart as I have another old picture with him and my grandfather and siblings on - can't find where that is either  :)
Thanks Sorastro
