In 2008 developers Birchall Estates obtained planning permission for the first phase of developments for a major development at the site.

And this.

I could go to Unstone for my hols that would save me a few quid  ;)
I wonder if that's what the closure on the by pass is about.
I read it somewhere last week, but it's only for a short time

This the brainchild of eccentric Rupert Carr.  Whose family own "Carrs" crackers and buscuits he's been trying for years to get this going, it got put on hold in 08 as the crunch happened.
I used to golf up there regularly and I can tell you now it's going to cost millions and millions to get that land to drain properly, it's all clay and will be difficult to create a PGA standard golf course there.
But hey good luck to the project and hope it's successful. I'll spend money there.

I'm all for good luck for any project that isn't going to cost the town money.
If the project fails, it's not on Chesterfield resident's council tax bills.
Unlike the new QP Leisure Centre  :-X

I hope it does work out and get built, it would be a great boost for the local economy and for jobs too.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Isn't that more of a reason to not see them get lumbered with paying for it  :)

I met Rupert Carr a few times and even did a bit of work with him once.  He showed me the plans and they are pretty breathtaking.  I hope it all works out, though not sure how it will affect local residents.  There are some homes only a few hundred yards away.  Oh well, we'll see  (y)
