Chesterfield's New Mormon Church Vistit.
« on: November 24, 2014, 08:00:44 PM »
Was going past the newish Mormon church or to give there official name The Church Of Latter Day Saints the lights were on and the sign fixed to the building stated visitors welcome so took up the offer . Its rare now for any religion to build on this scale given the costs involved in such construction the outside is typically American with the tower on the front topped by a spire there are no bells in the tower itself given the fact the LDS church is American based organization there should be no surprise in the style of the building. Upon on entering the church was greeted by the Mormon missionaries and was told that a lady was been baptized not wanting to gatecrash the party but was invented to watch and stay. The churches main hall is a large hall quite bright and airy the alter is not fixed on
the back wall nor is there any crosses on the walls there are no pews like in a traditional church.The alter is on the right side of a raised area were the organs are and a speakers platforms which is in the middle of the raised area the rest of the church was made up of school rooms a baptism area which is a small pool as people are put into the water while the person doing the baptize does the blessing which I witnessed . After the service they into moved a hall hopeing for a cup of tea they don't drink the stuff and alcohol are out of the window. Overall the church was quite impressive and the congregation were friendly enough was told quite a bit about there briefs and how it worked. Mormonism itself doesn't appeal to me personally but then again I wasn't there to pass judgment on that anyway and it was nice to get the chance to see what the inside was like.

Not hinting at all  ::)
There's an area of Chesterfield I feel compelled to call at and take a few pics of.

Being brought up a Methodist and attending Chapel twice daily on Sunday's I was 'born into it' as was my daughter.
We don't practice though these days, I used to help with the Sisterhood fundraising and in the choir at Anniverasry.
My daughter was a big fund raiser in her teens for the Chapel.
My own thoughts on the religions is that they failed to bend a little and move with the times, so very set in their ways and maybe one reason why attendance dwindled.

I'v'e been in many Churches/ Cathedrals over the years, never a Mormon Church.
I would love to see your photographs ironsky if you can share them  :)

The Latter Day Saints had a church on Saltergate when I was younger (cant remember the date) - it is now the Labour Headquarters car park, opposite the statues.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I will post my pics of the inside of Mormon church when in town again. I have family who are into the Americanized church thing but they are not Mormons it was interesting to see the Mormon version of a baptism and the service that went with it made my vistit even more interesting then shown round the church itself felt lucky to be allowed to witness the baptism as some churches would not allow that if any Mormon is reading this thank you for letting me photo the inside of your church.

There is a church marked on a map dated 1967 showing a church building square in design but no name is given. I know the Mormons used Newbold School for there meetings before they moved into there new church at Stonegraves.
