The area where the roundabout is has a great view of the Crooked Spire as proven in that photo I think people who are driving in that area will look at the spire first not that eyesore. Another thing is people (hopefully) will be more concerned with there driving to look at that 'Growth' remember its a very busy road and a known accident spot. Wholeheartedly agree we should promote Chesterfield but there are other more effective ways to do this when people hear the name Chesterfield they associate the town with the Crooked Spire not some odd looking thing on a roundabout!

I don't think we need 'anything' there plus it's distracting.
If I lived say for example in London, I wouldn't be thinking oh I really must go to Chesterfield to see the Tree.

If folks are not capable of driving round a roundabout with a sculpture on it without having an accident - that says more about our town than the sculpture ever will.

What it should do is make people park up somewhere safe, then return to the roundabout on foot if they want a photo of the sculpture. This may include paying for parking and visiting the town too.
I've visited places before just for a photo. Did it the other week in Ibiza. We saw this park from the bus on the way out of Ibiza town. So we went back a few days later for a look around, armed with my new camera LOL

Well we are stuck with it now so only can live and let live. My concern is with maintenance like anything else it will need a bit of TLC now and again plus the effects of fumes on the metal itself will take its toll on it if nothing is done maintenance wise in ten years time it will look worse for wear then what. All this cost money too has the council set aside a fund for the specialised repair work it will need?

I like the photo of the roundabout with the planting and flowers on it looks nice. That's the sort of thing I would have done at Hornsbridge with the spire as a back drop. But didn't Hornsbridge roundabout have a landscaped design with flowers on it at one time?

Horn's Bridge roundabout had grass and flowers on it after it's re-design.
I'd hardly call it landscaping

Why did it have to be something on a roundabout.
For instance  Liverpool has the Lamb bananas, Canaries - different kinds of dogs as does Vancouver - I know these are not sculptures but draw a lot of interest.
Why not sculptures ( trees for growth if we must ) of different sizes winding their way around parts of the town each one a little larger than the last one. It would encourage visitors to follow the pathway of trees and also maybe spend some money in the shops/cafes as they go.

Spot on idea draw people into the town where they can spend money helping the towns economy. Also could catch the attention of business who could open a shop on the trail.
