Over the last months we have dutifully complied with requests from our council to use the little grey bin for food waste and have dutifully deposited in the GREEN BIN.

Today we have a new information card for collections of Refuse, left with our empty dustbins.
We are advised that from December the 1st 2014 there will be NO GREEN BIN COLLECTIONS UNTIL March 15TH 2015.

We are to put our food waste into the BLACK BINS.

How can this just be changed for a few months each year - we are told food waste 'contaminates' the Black Bins

Someone is seriously taking the pee out of us!  >:(

Not in the N.E though slacker - makes an ass of the 'rubbish'  ::) we have been told don't you think?

Why have we got a rule for the summer and one for the winter is what I would like to know - how is this worked out/justified?

It makes more sense to have an all year round collection as in Chesterfield!

I'm totally fed up with the recycling fiasco as well, green bin, blue bin, black bin, blue box, little grey box, black box inside blue bin, cardboard side waste (which then blows all over on windy days) we've tried and tried but thats it now I've given up, rubbish goes in which ever bin they are collecting that week!
Can you remember when they used to have have the recycling bins at Sainburys where you could take your plastic bottles and tin cans, glass, card etc etc and put them all in seperate containers, well I used to do all that and then one day I happened to get there just after the bin lorry arrived to empty them and so I had to wait while the truck did its bit. I was totally gobsmacked to see the whole lot go into the back of the truck, all that sorting and it all went into the lorry, what a waste of effort! :o >:(  Sorry but enoughs enough, I have more important things to do than sort rubbish out.

we still have them, just that they are in the bus turning circle at the top of the drive as opposed to in the car park.

Another thing ( drags out soap box again ) has anyone else been plagued with the little 'fruit flies' as we call them - the green bin has been infested with them since we began putting food in with the garden waste.
They have infiltrated into the house - little annoying things they are!!  >:(

"Soap Box"? :o........................... we didn't get one of them.................. what colour is that?  Is it just for soap?........................Who throws away soap anyway? Unless you mean those tiny little slivers that I always seem to get left with after everyone else has had a shower :))

Seen it myself the dust bin lorry comes along all the bins thrown into the back regardless of colour its truly a waste of time sorting it all out.  :(

Been to the recycling plant at Liverpool and the technology for sorting out for sorting different materials from the blue (burgundy outside Chesterfield) bin waste is pretty impressive.
Green bin waste is turned into compost so shouldn't be contaminated.
Black bin waste still goes to landfill so should be kept to a minimum.

I remember my brother telling me that when these bins first came out there was a woman following the lorry taking pictures - seem to think he had a few words with her - something to do with what he had put in his bin that should have been in another bin  :-X

But slacker just what is the point of only using the green bins part time?
I'm seriously thinking of ditching my grey bin for food waste.
