New Renault Clio Urgent Safety Recall Information
« on: September 11, 2014, 07:54:33 PM »
My lad recently bought a second hand 2013 Renault Clio from Evans Halshaw (Mansfield). Only 3500 miles on clock top of range with full sat nav, air con, cruise control etc.. Lovely car - looks a stunner.
I get a knock on door from postie today - recorded delivery from Renault UK. Urgent recall notice regarding problems with braking system.
So my son & I bounce calls off each other (he's @ work in sheffield - I'm off on a rest day), the upshot of it being Renault cant look at the car until 22nd Sept, expect him to keep driving in the meantime, & can't/won't offer him a courtesy car (he'd like one from tomorrow to be honest - driving to sheffield & back every day with possible brake failure at the back of your mind) yet Renault manufacturing is at fault.
So what are his options? I've spent since 3pm most of my time on the phone with Gordon Lamb Chesterfield, Renault customer relations (took ages to get through but at least it was an 0800 number), & finally I've e-mailed renault@vehiclerecalls.co.uk.
Surely they are obliged to provide a courtesy car - or at least compensate him for the alternative forms of travel he might have to use to get to sheffield & back.

At a minimum they should advise him not to drive it and pay for any other transport.

On the other hand if he has an accident at the fault of the brakes failing, Renault have admitted it so they should ultimately take the blame and pay compensation.  Just make sure you keep the correspondence.

I had a Corsa ages ago and that was recalled for a wiring harness fault, was sorted within 3 days of me calling about it.

Im a bomb technician.  If you see me running, try and keep up
