So how's the Tree looking now, have the surroundings enhanced it?

I drove past last night but the lights were on green so didn't get chance to look at it

Bit busy to look too much at 5.00pm but managed a glimpse whilst lights were on red.
It definitely looks like a rusty tree which has been chopped in half and then the top half shoved back into the ground.
What's with the walls coming down from it?
Hubby tried to take a photo, haven't looked at it yet but if it's worth posting I will.

This is a quote from the DT website by Melanie Jackson, the artist behind the artwork.

“It is still a building site and it will be radically different in a few weeks. When it is finished I am confident it is going to be a success.

“There is an awful lot to come over the coming weeks and it is going to need a few months to settle.

“As with the Crooked Spire, it is a landmark for Chesterfield. This is a progressive place and it’s great that the council has got behind the project.”

As part of the design process, Melanie gathered information about the town’s heritage at Chesterfield library.

She said the sculpture, which has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Barratt Homes, represented the town’s industrial growth with the walls around the sculpture representing a cog.

She added: “I didn’t realise there was so much history in the area.

“The sculpture opens upwards to show the town’s growth and change. It grows out of the landscape and shows the roots of the town.

“The flower comes from the pomegranate tree, which also has a history in the town. The petals and walls will eventually become the same colour.

“We are going to put turf down for maximum impact and there will be trees and hedges too. It will all blend with the landscape.”

I suppose we'll have to wait and see what it's like when it's finished.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

So the walls will be brown to represent 'roots'
Ok it will be interesting to see when it's completed, maybe it will be quite eye catching.

Chesterfield goes back to Roman times doesn't it and if I remember rightly Newbold was back then the township  - not Chesterfield?

It can get a bit busy on that roundabout.
I viewed it from across the road a couple of weeks ago but was too low down to see it properly.
Now what we could do with is an train driver with a camera  ;)

Park in TK-Maxx and walk over the footpath, time of day and cloud cover could make a diference to the shot though.
This was taken from there before the tree started to appear.

I Don't know how true this is, but the rusty color is here to stay.
apparently, the rust is Lacquered to preserve the color.
That is why, i am told, the Angel of the North is rusty colored.
