I reckon we have a lot more shops open than most towns. Also, I noted on another forum, somebody visited another local market only to find three stalls operating. I don't think we're doing too bad considering.

Markets  seem  to  be  in  decline  especially  around  this  area,  shopping  habits  have  certainly  changed. Chesterfield  market  was  always  very  busy  on Monday, Friday and  Saturday  but  now  there  are  plenty  of  vacant  pitches. The  busiest  is  the  flea  market  on  Thursdays, no  spare  stalls  that  day.
Do  what  you  can,  while  you  can!

Welcome to the forum Mick  :).

I'm not that impressed with the shops we have TBH there are plenty of mobile phone shops ( or used to be ) and charity shops.
One decent shoe shop as I know of, clothes for me are Debenhams, M&S ( which can be so boring) or BHS. Boots the Chemist several pound shops etc. Oh Eyres for furniture ( at a price ) etc etc. If I want decent curtains at a reasonable price where do I go?

Looks like I'm one of the  moaning opinionated mardarses   ::)  :P

The Market has for some reason been spread out and I have wondered if this is why there are some vacant stalls on the main Market thus giving it an air of 'decilne' Does the flea market spread out as well?

Hiya Mick, welcome  (y)

As for the 'tree', been past several times now. The shiny metal insides of the 'leaves' are virtually unseen from ground level.
All you see is a rusty looking looking thing with shiny stamen poking out the top  :-X

@Fly - You'll not like Nelsons statue in Trafalgar Square then...

@Pete, Nelson: Went to London as a child, never got to see it. I did see his memorial statue in Great Yarmouth last week.
Very impressive structure, so I probably would like the column, minus the pigeon muck

I didn't say I didn't like the tree, I merely said some of it isn't that visible. I'll probably end up nipping onto the walkway and taking a couple of shots  :)

Not a pop at you mate, I don't expect everyone to like it - just fed up with all the whinging about it. Live and let live I say.

My post was about Nelson's statue - its about 170 feet in the air, LOL

Who's on the column in Yarmouth? Britannia?

Yes mate, it's 5 metres shorter than Nelson's Column. There's a stairway inside to a viewing area just below Britannia.
Only 2 people allowed at a time, £3 each, but the notice/sign was from 2013. So we didn't get the chance, shame  :(

Must admit, there's a lot of whinging about the tree as you say. Get over it people, it's there.
If the council didn't go with it, some other council would have.
The lane closures weren't needed, that's my main gripe.

Have I said it's a waste of money ?
I'm not sure if I like the 'art' or not, and didn't say I did in my last post  ;)
I think lots of people have different opinions on the sculpture, but we're not popping at each other  ;)

I've got enough of that going on on Facebook.
Bolsover council have confirmed Morrisons have bought Sherwood Lodge/Green  :)
