Shouldn,t   motorists  be   concentrating  on  the  road,  its  mad  enough  as  it  is on  that  roundabout,  without  looking  at  a  so  called  metal  Tree !

Quite right pastitman. I had a look whilst the lights were on red but had a longer look whilst out of the car when I parked up across the road

So the sculpture cost £300,000. I'm presuming this was all costs included?
Meaning of course the work on the island/ transportation of the sculpture etc.

What's this about the refurbishment of the railway station gateway.
Not having been to the station for awhile I obviously haven't seen anything but also have obviously 'missed' the fact that there is to be £2000.000 spent on it.
Not wishing to deflect from the topic and maybe another topic is needed - what is going on down there?

The work is part of a £500,000 revamp which will see £300,000 spent on Hornsbridge and the remaining money on refurbishing the railway station gateway.

Award-winning artist Wolfgang Buttress, working with design company LDA, has created ‘Portal’ which draws on the rich history that has shaped Chesterfield.

The concept also ‘looks to the future’ through the portal and to a new chapter in Chesterfield’s development.

At this moment in time I reckon Chesterfield's future looks pretty dire, shops closing, DCC struggling for cash - ---  :(

I think Chesterfield's future is looking good. There are always tales of doom and gloom around, too many opinionated mardarses moaning about everything under the sun. We've done very well compared with most towns during the recession. Also we have a higher than average occupancy rate for shops.

The arts projects are not funded by the council - and the cuts are a direct result of the current Conservative and LibDem coalition's cuts to the councils.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
