Chesterfield Borough Council Tax

Just saw this on Twitter:

"Council tax for Chesterfield Borough Council services to stay the same after unanimous vote to freeze it at current rates."

That's interesting. I fully expected it to go up to 1.99%.
It was recommended though that all council Taxes be frozen

CBC element of your council tax amounts to about 10% of the bill. If it had gone up by 2% (let's not play political games) my payment would have gone up 42p a month. If it meant keeping Cllr Slack in the style to whit it's a small price to pay!!!!

I wouldn't call it spin, fact is borough council tax is staying put. It will as a result  be staying put for 2 years because 2015 is election year!! Of course given that inflation is running at around 2% and the staff are going to want a pay rise no one has mentioned yet where savings will be made or what cuts. I understand from my sources that there was a 3 day long meeting earlier this month where yet another re-structure was discussed. Now in my experience the last couple have resulted on staff retiring on the Friday and then starting again on the Monday as 'consultants' resulting on higher rather than lower bills.  Perhaps Cllr Slack would like to comment?

There was a press release a couple of weeks ago that we would freeze the council tax but because it wasn't a "council tax hike" the Derbyshire Times hid it away in another article rather than make a headline of it.

The government bribe works differently this year and doesn't keep the base rate low. If it was frozen lat year we would have had a lower starting place this year. Chesterfield's council tax is in the loewt 10% nationally of 2nd tier authorities but despite that we have had one of the worst settlement grants from the government.

Always looking at efficiency savings as it will likely be a similar or worse situation next year. Double whammy for me as the department I work for at DCC has about 25% reduction in budget. Restructuring likely to happen at both authorities to accommodate savings
