Whitting Moor Roundabout Project
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:32:56 AM »
The Whitting Moor Roundabout is just one of the roads in Derbyshire to be recommended for funding from the government.
The request will be for Derrbyshire to recieve £3.24m towards the £4.68m cost of revamping and making the roundabout safer.

Derbyshire will pay the short fall through other funds.

If this goes ahead I for one will welcome it!

It's been needed for years now  - mind you it's a lot of money to spend.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It's not really saying what they plan to do but am I reading it that work to other roads which ink to it may have work done to them to ease conjestion? Trying to get out of the Whittington hill road can be -'not for the faint hearted' at times.

It could do with traffic lights as could the end of Langer Lane; there's some surplus to requirements at Hasland

Just remove all the traffic lights.
Make sure people who drive, are really fit to drive.
And I don't mean retests at a certain age.

I'm all for letting traffic 'flow'. Not queue it up and then let it go.

Let it flow is the word Fly.
,
The Whit roundabout is like a huge circular racing track at times with the 'guess where I am going' brigade in full flight.

You are never going to get just 'people who are really fit'  on the roads, it makes sense for the councils to make them safer even if it does mean joining a queue

Better than congestion where people will take risks out of pure fustration

Part know what your saying OC.

You want the speed limit on Whit roundabout dropped.
Did or do you know its a 60mph roundabout. National speed limit.
Might actually be 70mph. It's on a dual carriageway.

Yes the speed limit should be dropped - what idiot would want to do 60 round it - yes I know there are plenty.
Dropping it wouldn't make any difference though woud it, as those who wanted to race everyone ese would still do it.

Needs some stingers putting in - if you drive over 30 round it - you are slowed down automatically  ::)

Funny you should say that OC - we once discussed this before and I suggested speed bumps to slow folks down.

The answer is a flyover for the A61 through traffic. That would separate it from local traffic which could use the roundabout underneath with traffic lights, if necessary - but we'll probably get traffic lights which many drivers will jump on red anyway. Personally I don't find that roundabout a problem but I've probably spent far too much time in fast cars  >:
