Just seen an article on a news website by Sir Mark Thatcher. I didn't know he had been knighted - last I heard he was part of a failed coup to overthrow a govenment in Africa - or am I just mis-remembering...  :(

I have been saying exactly the same to hubby Pete, just couldn't remember what he had been involved in and like you had no idea he had been Knighted.

I'm not sure how many others think we shouldn't be paying 'ANYTHING' for this funeral and WHY it is thought we should - she will have a generous estate won't she - really not on! >:

Anyone going to watch the funeral????

He hasn't. As I said Mummy made sure her's was a hereditary title so it gets passed down. Thus he became Sir Mark on the death of Dennis 10 years ago

Just read about Thatcher in a piece by Prescott:

"... I’ve an idea. Get the 13,000 millionaires who’ve just received £100,000 each from this Government to each stump up £770. Privatise her funeral. It would be a fitting tribute."

 :)) :)) :))

There was a Labour Government under Harold Wilson in power so if Attlee didn't get the recognition he deserved whose fault is that?

Bad reasoning Jon. If someone decides to spend £20k on their dad's funeral could I be criticised for not doing the same for my dad when he died?

It's getting that one needs to have loadsa money to have any credibility these days...

Labour didn't spend 10m of tax payers money on Atlee's funeral.
Tory's will for Thatcher's funeral.

Yes, I agree the images could be read in more than 1 way  :!

my point was that if Labour were still in power chances are they would have dumped her on a rubbish heap rather than pay for a state funeral.
But the tories still see her as some sort of goddess and therefore will give her what they perceive as a fitting send off.
If Labour saw fit not to do that for one of their own as I say that is up to them
