Must admit it was a shock when I put the computer on and saw that announced on the forum  :o

Hi.
Im not going to get political on this one, but somebody has a lot to answer for.

I remember the 'trunk bundle system' that took your money up in a pod via a tube to the nether floors and sent your change and a receipt back down.
The children's horse ride with a round push button on it like the ones the old buses had.
The model railway with 'real' steam coming from the engines.
Was it Meccano that was motorised and working in the window or Leggo.

Sad Days.

When they're selling stuff from mamas & papas that is more expensive than buying it from a mamas and papas store, then its hardly surprising sales have dwindled. They were more expensive than other high street stores for the same products never mind online.  Sad for the town, but again they didn't adapt.

Fair comment  :)

Wow Old Miner, that takes me back. When we were kids my mam made us learn the number - and I think I can still remember it now - 28052.  :-[

Funny how I can remember that but not what I did yesterday.  ;)

Sad news as it was hoped it would pick up passing trade between Northern Gateway and the main town centre areas.

However it does seem to have been downsizing for some while. They used to have the large electrical area on Wheatbridge Road which went, They used to have a good toy department which reduced considerably when it moved out of the basement where it had been for as long as i can remember (I had a Saturday / Christmas job there in 1973 and it was packed with staff).

There's a petition to the owners. Not sure what notice they will take but voicing public opinion can't do any harm.

Petitioning a business to keep making a loss??

Management buyout?  Please management, put your own money into buying this loss making store...

I know people might have an emotional attachment to the store, but asking somebody to continue losing money just for the sake of it is a bit much.

Asking them to consider advertising campaigns and the like?.? Do they not think that the people in charge of a retail business have considered basics like that?

Totally agree with you CC, exactly same scenario as the closing down of the Crispin mentioned in another thread.
