Today I hear the Republic has gone bust and Next is to close their High Street branch.

How long before tumbleweed rolls down High Street on Saturday afternoons?  :(
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

The High Street branch of Next has always been poor in terms of its stock even before the Ravenside branch was built. Now that Debenhams is on the same site the only people who are going to go into High Street Next will be the lunchtime office shoppers. Not enough trade to justify it.

So another empty shop in town centre.
TKMax opens tomorrow. Another shop that you really need to travel to by car.
Is it me or is this town falling apart before our eyes  :'(

To be fair the town centre has been a shifting dynamic and dying in one way or another for years.
The Pavements centre opened in 1981.
That more or less killed off Cavendish Street and Stephenson Place as a shopping area.
The re-location of the library did for Holywell Cross.
Ravenside with Currys and PC world affected Comet and the Saltergate shops.
Vicar Lane has affected the Pavements.
Debenhams might well have been the last nail in the Co-ops coffin
No doubt the donut will have an adverse affect on shops in the Town Centre.

Can't see the donut going ahead. May as well put the carboot back on there.

I guess that will depend on how badly Asda want it.
If they do open then it will kill off the co-op food hall and do serious damage to the T**** in the Pavements.
Don't think they would do us much damage and I think both Morrisons are in enough of a 'market' to be ok. T**** could be the big loser.

I was thinking Waitrose, I don't think Asda are going to fork the money out.
They've got Whitmoor and planning permission for an Asda Home Store on Markham Rd ??

I don't think there's enough of a demographic in Chesterfield for Waitrose.

Well Sainsbury's aren't the backer. I doubt it's Tesco or Asda, Morrisons ??
Can't wait till we've got one in Boza  :-)
