HMV in administration
« on: January 15, 2013, 10:23:37 AM »
Very sad as another hits the dust - or maybe a good fairy will come along and bale them out.
Hubby not happy as he's still got a £20.00 voucher from Christmas to use. I've spoken to a lovely chap this morning to see if it can still be used (thought he would nip in today quick and use it  ;)) but no they can't take or sell any.
Very sad that staff have to hear that they might be out of work via the media -  :(

Thats the down side of the internet i think, lots of jobs being lost in the high street due to online shopping.

Sad that the workforce will lose jobs but did HMV shed tears when the local independent record stores went out of business?

Daughters come up with a suggestion - take the voucher back to tesco's where she bought it and ask for an exchange --- nice idea but don't think that will work  ;)

It may work.   Tesco may not have paid HMV for it yet.   Plus, you bought an item from Tesco that does not work.   Its no different to buying a kettle and getting it home to find it doesnt boil water.

You bought a voucher for HMV and that voucher doesn't work.   I'd be in asking for my money back.  Somebody has taken £20 from you (or the person that bought it), and you have got nothing of value.

EDIT:
In fact having just banded this round the office, we are pretty certain that contract law would apply here and you should be entitled to a refund from Tesco, though you may need your receipt and perhaps the bit of cardboard that the voucher was/is attached to.  Having just read a Tesco receipt, you'll have 28 days from sale.

Under sales of goods, they have sold you something unfit for purpose.

Kick a stink at Tesco customer service and I reckon you'll walk out £20 better off.

Well said Chris, some valid points there and sounds like a plan! Good luck OC

What would be your legal position if you picked items up to the value of your vouchers, thrust your vouchers at a member of staff and walked out with the items. Surely they could hardly accuse you of shoplifting?
