Not sure if this is such a good idea. You can't just stop someone from smoking.

Blimey some of them will be climbing the walls, never smoked myself but can appreciate how hard it is for people to stop.

And that will be from the prison guards who are suffering from passive smoking.
Yes I know, ex smoker, at least I always stuck to the rules. No smoking meant no smoking if that was the rules.

May be an added incentive to offenders - don't think you can smoke inside , cos you can't!!
Makes prison a bit less attractive to regular offenders.
Makes their stay at prison a bit less "enjoyable" if they can't smoke.

You only have one life, so live it & love it, & more importantly LOVE YOURSELF!

God forbid if I had ever got locked up and not been allowed to smoke. I'd be raging, nowt to lose  >;
I think after a year of not smoking, my attitude has changed. I'd  hate to be seen as a hypocrite though.
So I'm being careful with my posts in this thread  ;)

I think a smoking ban in jail could significantly reduce crime. The hard men tend to be hard on an aggressive level, but nicotine is very addictive - losing it could scare them.

On the other hand I note that even in countries that chop your hand off for thieving, they still have thieves.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It's a good point Pete, but don't people who commit crimes think 'it's the perfect crime and they won't get caught'
I reckon they would need higher levels of prison officers if this went through

And the best part been think how much money you have saved. I stopped smoking in 1997 must have saved a lot of money.

Money has never come into the equation. Being badly for the last two years and prescription charges makes you wonder we bothered !!
