Booking a driving test
« on: August 12, 2024, 10:35:33 AM »
I've seen on the news this morning about the number of people waiting for driving tests. Some are waiting up to 5 months and some can't get one at all, this has produced these sites where you can "queue jump" for a test but at an extortionate price and usually not your immediate area.
Edmund King president of the A.A. says the reason for the backlog is down to Covid, over about a 2 year period no tests were given out plus there's been a couple of driving examiner strikes, all in all there's about 500,000 people waiting to take their tests.
He did mention when asked if it would be possible to catch up and he cited the case of the passport issuing crisis a while ago that has now caught up so he sees no reason why this can't be resolved.
I can't see how office workers stamping bits of paper can compare to a driving test they are as different as night and day

These sites should be closed down and go back to the old system of your driving instructor booking your test and no one else, having said that unfortunately as in my granddaughters case a few years ago she found herself with an instructor that was basically milking her for her money and every time she enquired about a test she was told she was not ready, she eventually changed instructors and the new instructor put her in for her test after the first lesson.
Still the thought of having another half million cars on the, already busy, roads containing inexperienced drivers doesn't fill me with hope.

I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.
