« on: January 09, 2021, 11:42:05 AM »
Tupton Local History Society March 15th at 6.45pm.

We have a Zoom presentation on The Tupton Bombings 1941.
This will be presented on the 80th anniversary of the bombing March 15th.

A local Tuptonian farmers son from years ago is going to present this for us.

John Stamp
If you have never used Zoom before I can tell you it is very easy. Just email tuptonlocalhistory@gmail.com and the link will be sent to you.
All you need to do is click on the link and John Stamp will let you in. You don't have to put your camera on if you don't wish to be seen.
You only need the sound on to see and listen to John.

Watch out for more details when I have the link from John to send out.

Sounds very interesting O.C.

I wonder if this has any bearing on something my mother told me when I was young, I'm going back 60 years now. From what I remember of what she said she told me one evening, during the war, a German bomber had crashed landed near here and the police were mobilised, I think she said it might have been on or near Tupton wreck.
Allegedly one of the airmen was later spotted hiding in an outside privy behind the terraces on New street Grassmoor and was arrested. It would be interesting to find a little bit more detail about this {story} as the main railway line cuts through here and bombers did follow railway lines to targets by looking for the fires on board the trains knowing they passed through populated areas.
I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.
