A57 Snake Pass to close for two weeks for essential work
« on: May 20, 2015, 05:28:25 PM »
Lovely! We have a wedding at Glossop during this time.

The A57 Snake Pass will be closed from Monday 1 June until Sunday 14 June so that major repairs can be made to the retaining wall in four different places. There will be no through route from Glossop to Sheffield for any vehicle while the work is taking place.

The road will be closed from the junction of the A57 with the A6013 Ashopton Road to its junction with Hurst Road in Glossop.

A signed diversion route will be in place, which is A6013 − A6187 − B6049 − A623 − A6 − A615 − A624 − A57 (to point of closure) and vice versa.

Councillor Dean Collins, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said:

"We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience while the Snake Pass is closed, but we cannot carry out this essential work without closing the road."
People wanting to visit the Snake Pass Inn will be able to drive to the pub from the Bamford side.

The A57 in Dinting Vale, near Glossop will also be affected at the end of June by the demolition of an old mill. To allow the work to take place safely there will be traffic lights at the junction of the A57 with Shaw Lane from 7pm on Friday 26 June over the weekend, and possibly the following weekend. Traffic along the A57 could be delayed.
