So you weld the metal poles (above the alloy plates),  under the release catch, so they are still removeable ?

Another possible avenue OC, have you considered taking them to an alloy (brass) foundry and having a new pair cast?

No Alsatian but am open to all ideas.

I have looked on the net for Sirocco w/chairs as Handy suggested to see if I can buy any stronger ones but there's none on. I haven't called them though yet Handy
