Chesterfield gridlocked - what happened?

Couldn't get round town for traffic late this afternoon as all the main roads were bumper to bumper. I heard some poor soul jumped from the footbridge near the college, but I have confirmation if this is true.
Anyone?

It is true. We were stuck in the traffic too and saw the helicopter coming to air lift him to the Northern General.

I've just seen, on the DT website, that " a man fell" from the bridge.
Very sad whatever happened.

I suppose it must have been very serious injuries that made the doctors take him to Sheffield.

I did wonder what was happeneing as there was a lot more traffic even on Chester st than normal, feel sorry for the chap whether it was a deliberate attempt or no. I imagine his injuries were too serious for the Royal
