The Winner of Today's Elections .......................
« on: May 02, 2013, 07:45:51 AM »
Will undoubtably be apathy.
Probably around 40% of us will bother to go vote which means the winners will be elected by something like 15% of the electorate as a whole.
It's no use waking up on May 3rd and finding the party in charge isn't your preferred one if you didn't do anything about it.
No one has rallied more on these forums recently against our archaic voting system, it's a crock of S*** but it's OUR crock of S*** and our democratic right.
Unlike Slacker I don't care who you vote for.
To quote Will Bailey in the West Wing, "no matter who you vote for, Just Vote"!!!

I will, as always, be voting this evening.

Now, who to vote for...?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I've just voted.
I got two votes one borough and one county.
I have voted for my preferred candidates which had nothing at all to do with party politics.

I have always encouraged people to vote, I started a Facebook group ages ago called "if you don't vote don't blame anyone else" (or similar). I have commented on DT FB page similar sentiment and added that if you don't like any of the parties or candidates then stand as an independent

Just got Back from voting.....nearly ripped it up when I saw the candidates on the voting paper,
so had to think what's best for local politics.

Maybe, but what's the chance of them making any difference?

I think 40% is very optimistic.

The weather will have helped but you are probably right (which of course makes the apathy angle even worse)
To be honest I've found it all very low key.
We've had one leaflet from an Independant, nothing from any of the main parties and nothing from the party trying to get a foothold. Assumption has to be that Labour think they can't lose and the Lb Dems vice versa.
There are presumably other key battle grounds in parts of the county that have had all the effort put into them.

The boundaries have all been changed to make numbers more equal though they don't seem to follow boundaries of communities so closely now.
