Great news, a new cycle route from the rail station.
« on: March 12, 2013, 05:34:05 PM »
Just saw this on Facebook.
The cycle route will start at the rail station and go down to the Ravenside Retail site and connect to Queens Park.
Me thinks they will have to build a new bridge near Bembridges shed sales.
The old one was taken out a few years ago  :)

Is it great news?

Maybe so, if Conservative councillors like Simon Spencer are preparing for when the working man can't afford a car any more...

Think it through folks, we can't compete with India and China on manufacturing because the labour costs are so high. So, screw the working man until they are prepared to work for five bob a month and we can compete. Genius!
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I remember that song as a kid OC. I was only 3 when it came out. If the date on the video's correct.  C:-)

And yes, I once rode a penny farthing. Holmewood Fete. About 1978/9,
I was a member of the Bolsover Wheelers cycling club.
Not got a photo sadly  :(

Many years ago I lived next door but one to a Hallam FM DJ.
He commented one morning that the council had been awarded £50k to build a cycle route that involved the crossing of the Horns Bridge Roundabout.
His response?
They'd have to give me the whole £50k to get me to cycle round it !!!!!!

I've just read on the DT website that it's going to cost a million pounds.

Good job we've got loads of money in Chesterfield.

Err... Hang on...

From the link in the OP.

Cyclists in Chesterfield are riding high after Derbyshire County Council announced a £1million extension to the town’s cycle network.

It's DCC, means I'm paying for it too, and I don't even live in Chesterfield so will never use it.
