Ched Evans has been given a chance to play for Chesterfield FC as you know Evans ( 27) had been charged  for rape then jailed this sentence was squashed on appeal in April this year . Their be a new hearing in October to look again at the case. Was it a wise move to sign up Evans with a retrial on the horizon?

And would your opinion be any different if it was a shop lifting offence in the equation, not rape ?

Shoplifting is one thing alleged rape is quite another. Until the matter is resolved  the jury is out on this case.

This could not have been an easy choice for Chesterfield FC.He's been given a one year contract (two if proven innocent) - or something like that. He's a proven footballer - good striker up until his conviction on alleged conjecture of rape.
A good striker - but been out of the game since 2012.
Danny Wilson (CFC Manager) knows him from being manager at Sheffield United, so it's a bold move that will come in for some critical comments,  but until his re-trial he is innocent, & he has served two years in jail of a four year sentence.
A bold move by Chesterfield F.C. from a lower division club to perhaps bring a significant striker back into the game whatever the consequences.
Nearly 4 years out of the game he will be seriously unfit, yet he was on 20K a week at Sheffield united - he'll be lucky to be on £2000 a week at Chesterfield FC.

By all accounts we can cut him free if the retrial finds him guilty. If we'd waited too the retrial and he was not guilty we'd be a long way down the line of clubs looking to sign him. It's a tough call they've had to make and split the fans on the CFC forum. As it stands he's innocent until proven otherwise so maybe he should be given the chance to resurrect his career.

Out of interest not the first time the club have been down this route. It was us that gave Shane Nicholson a second chance after his drugs ban etc. That turned out OK.

I've heard Chesterfield's main sponsor has pulled out because of this?
Maybe they have not done themselves a favour?
