Oldest Family Business
« on: March 23, 2016, 08:12:41 PM »
Do we have any family businesses left in Chesterfield?
There are a couple of Market Stall Holders who seem to have been trading for a number of years - but what about shops?
I don't know of any but if we have, which is the oldest running family business still going?

Johnsons on Chatsworth Road and Barton and Gilling on Whittington Moor spring to mind.

What do they sell Umpire?

Ibbotsons fruit and veg on the Market have been around for at least 60 years and maybe Eyres Fruit and veg the same. I'm taking it they are family businesses.

Johnsons sell DIY  things and have everything you could possibly think of and must have been there at least 60 years.Barton and Gilling repair washers ,fridges ,microwaves and hoovers and have a large stock of spare parts. They also do call outs.I know that they are in their third generation of Bartons in the business.
