When did this shop close??

I don't know it's name but it's been opposite Costa Coffee/ Wlko's for a long time.
It was next to the Camera exchange shop which is now closed, selling food and chocolate, often had good displayed outside.

We noticed on our way down to Soulville that it was empty???

Yes it closed down a couple of weeks ago. You mean the cheap shop that sold out of date goods

Some goods it did, I went in not so long ago (bought hot sauce for other half) and looked at some chocolates or something that ran out a month before...for choc its not a big deal but unsure whether the other goods were the same. I imagine thats why they sold them cheaper than in the shops...
Not slating them though as other half said the hot sauce was really nice and I have bought stuff in the past from there.

Interesting - I thought shops were not allowed to sell out of date goods, I obviously got that wrong

It's illegal to sell stuff beyond its use by date for fresh stuff (produce dairy meat etc). It's not illegal to sell stuff after a best before date (tins crisps pop etc) because that date says this is when it will taste at its best but will still be edible after that date. Of course certain reputable supermarkets (mentioning no names) won't sell stuff beyond best before dates either.

So they just dispose of food that is still edible ??

Yes and no. Our systems and turn round are such that we don't get much 'long life' stuff that goes out of date. What we do get is reduced in the lead up and then if we are still in possession it gets written off and then donated to charity.

Incidentally in the case of short life products with use by and sell by dates on being illegal to sell after the date the fine is £5000, ........... Per item!!! So if we have a case of 20 packets of ham on the shelf out of date that's £100k!
