Wasn't that on Facebook?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Apparently yes JR, but I've not seen anything official and won't be in town at night even when it's finished :-(

I can't believe this comment I saw earlier on CF

Quote
The council was gifted taxpayers money. It is very much the councils responsibility to ensure that it is spent wisely. To even refer to taxpayers money as a "gift" just because the council didn't collect it themselves is pretty evident of the councils attitude toward spending.
The difference between this and an art gallery is that a portion will have gone to the artist. The remainder is what has been spent on simple construction of the artists vision. I.e. the art is taken out of the equation.
Though your response of "It's not the council's place to scrutinise the cost of something that is in effect a gift to the town."
Pretty much sums up what I guess was the attitude toward the cost of this project all along. Its not our money we're spending, so who cares about value for money. The fact it was still taxpayers money didn't even enter their heads.
Oh well its built now. Let's see how the next project goes, when it actually is council funds being spent.

I don't for one minute think any other party run council in Chesterfield would have said. nah, we don't want the money for a sculpture in town. Give it another town or country.
