General Discussion / Re: Consultation on subsidised buses launched
« on: February 23, 2016, 08:32:28 PM »
Peak bus were an enthusiast run company, there were issues with reliability and the company fast came to an end. Was very entertaining to see some of their vehicles though. Trent run the comet (previously red arrow) the wellglade company that run trent also own TM travel.
Regarding the cuts my contract has come to an end with offer of casual work so I am looking into leaving bus driving all together.

General Discussion / Re: Age of public transport drivers

The medicals are very strict and it really isn't worth hiding a medical condition as its up to £1000 fine if found out.
I myself hold both pcv and hgv licence and due to a medical condition havnt worked since August, during which time i have had tests, trials and had to fill in medical forms for the dvla to notify them.
In turn the dvla have okayed me to drive on the consultants say so.
He is now confident im fit to drive so im back next week.
having a professional licence isn't by any means straight forward and medical conditions are looked upon very strictly, stagecoach who i have in the past worked for have a company medical as well as the dvla one, and in some places bmi is part of the medical.
For the record im 30 years old.

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: New plans for community transport

I cant see any changes making it better to be honest, as a company we have done all we can to keep it viable, dronfield town council subsidise shopper buses in their area i believe, they are heavily used by dronfield people.

Our dial a buses have had a big restructure to make them more viable, theyve had a shuffle to take in bigger areas at once and to extra places to make it more attractive to users. We have more bums on seats now but its the same as most services, people don't realise what they have until its gone. Luckily for me i dont do these services often as i do mostly private hire work.

Even I haven't heard this news, in fact we've just had two voluntary redundancies to help bridge the funding gap!

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Oyster Style Card For Chesterfield?
« on: November 21, 2014, 09:54:30 PM »
Nottingham buses had a coin slot approach with no change given in about 2000. That worked quite well, just tell the driver the destination put in the change to cover it and out pops the ticket. Obviously cards are easier now so long as people understand it, we are so behind many cities, Manchester is adopting the oyster style approach.

Changing to a harvester in the new year.

That's the one fly. Covers all subsidised transport. Most stagecoach services are commercial so arnt council subsidised other than some early morning, evening and weekend runs.

I heard this too, I think the reality will be a refit and they probably can't keep it open during this due to its small size. Staveley has apparently just had a refit, I heard it was to be January it closes although not heard anything official. I take dial a bus shoppers there and there are no signs advertising anything.

The 727 never ran on time because of the bit between Sheffield and meadowhall, it wasnt as used as the rest of the route, was constantly congested so they got rid of that bit. They could I suppose do two a day each way that continues to meadowhall to link it but as scimitar says since taking over Yorkshire traction they think it's OK for people to swap buses with their shopping etc. The same with crystal peaks too.

Scimitar have you had a look at the newer national express and mega bus coaches? Their lift comes out of the front door and is fully automated from the drivers seat. They are fantastic, I think we need one rather than having the lift half way down the coach and having to get out, push them on and clamp the chair down. I presume the express coaches just have the bay at the front like service buses.

I've personally never understood the link between Sheffield and matlock, I would of thought a more frequent service between Sheffield and Chesterfield would be better as I can remember what the 727 was like when we got stuck in woodseats, I can't imagine that much time is retrieved on the hills to Matlock afterwards. Accessible coaches would be a more comfortable ride too. The old coaches on the 747/727 were nice to use and travel on.
