When I was a kid we only ever went on the odd organised day trip to the seaside and if a Bransons coach turned up we thought it was our lucky day as they were always the newest and poshest coaches at that time.

Blimey how to segregate the classes - I wonder if the same rules would still apply today?

It made sense up to a point but I offered to take my overalls off and still I wasn't allowed in so it was definitely either segregation or snobbery.

Claytons was the next to the last building then came the adult school and then the junction with Thompson street, opposite Claytons was Jackie Johnson's farm yard, we used to go in there to look at the goldfish in his duck pond.

Rants / postal voting

I get really annoyed everytime I use the postal voting system. I always thought that in this country your vote was private and confidential and yet you cannot vote unless you sign your name and date of birth and put it in with the voting envelope and both envelopes A and B have you personal number on the outside for everyone to see making it easy for any Tom Dick or Harry to know who has voted for who. Grrrr!
 Rant over

Funny thing, as I remember, in the 1960s it was used as a canteen for Robbo's workers.

When i worked at Robbo's I decided to go to Brad at lunchtime to have dinner with my wife, only to find out that we couldn't sit together in the same room as I was a worker and she was office staff.
Workers had their dinner in Bradbury hall, office staff had their dinner in the york hall and directors and upper management had the dinner upstairs in the William room.

My grandmother lived immediately next door to the factory at no. 68 and used to sell their 'pop' from the kitchen door. They made all the usual flavours but my favourite was one called 'ice cream soda'
That was in the days when you used to get 3d when you returned the empty bottle

J.J.Claytons mineral water factory was down Foundry street, they used to work with the large doors open and you could stand and watch the bottles going round on the conveyer belts.
