I have just read that an application is going to be put in for an 89 bedroom hotel on the first floor,6 family restaurants on the ground floor and a fitness suite in the basement.

Yes, it's the 'latest news' doing the rounds (y)
I like this comment from Simon Debell on our Facebook group LOL ;D
I presume you can all see the "Smoke House" in the second picture. That's where all the town council planning department were smoking dope before they came up with another impracticle conflicting overambitious scheme, although the idea is very pleasing.
-
An amusing comment but factually incorrect
-
Are the reported plans 'factual though?'
If it is would it bring more tourism to our town - competition for the Casa maybe?
-
I'm afraid Simon Debell is a bit of a "prophet of doom".
-
The plans are no doubt factual given that anybody can walk into the town hall and look at them. It's not however the planners who have come up with them. They are merely tasked with the job of recommending approval or refusal to the councils planning committee

I hope it gets passed by the relevant authority. The building is a fine one, although grossly neglected in terms of maintenance by the Co-op.
That part of town is still busy because of the adjacent car parks, and the buses that stop there. I suppose it's also reasonably close to the railway station,so the Hotel part could be quite handy.
Either way, I hope it works :)

What he said. (y)

I heard the end of what i think was an interview on peak radio yesterday about this and it certainly seemed very possible that this will happen.
Not too sure if it a UK company who want to do this but I remember on our travels one year booking into a hotel which had multiple restaurants in - think it may have been Canada?
-
If the development goes ahead, don't be surprised if the Co-op moves back into the building nearer Knifesmithgate. They will be nearer the centre of town. They still own the building and therefore sensibly will block any applications from other supermarkets - obviously :)
-
Furthermore Co-op food retail store at top of Elder Way will become vacant - so what do we do with that?

First I knew of that scimitar, when does that close?

Scimitar did say If :) (y)

Co-op still own the building therefore they still get first choice (should they wish too) on relocation within the old Co-op for the food store should they wish in the "old"building. I've tried explaining as best I can - they will take preference over another supermarket for obvious reasons. Relocation nearer the town centre you see. Having said that, they will probably stay where they are apparently according to my daughter (Co-op employee) ::)
