Title: 3rd September - Tibshelf Oil Well
Post by: Old Cruser on September 01, 2015, 10:34:30 AM
Did you know that the first inland oil well in England was in Derbyshire 100 years ago? It was in Tibshelf and produced 6500 tons of the runny black stuff (as opposed to the solid black stuff usually associated with the area). The well is still in existence at the Oil well Nursery on Chesterfield Road just outside Tibshelf.

This Thursday the Tupton Local History Society will host Cliff Lee, who will give an illustrated presentation about TIBSHELF OIL. This will be at 7:00 pm at St John's Church on Queen Victoria Road in New Tupton. Entrance price is only £2 and this includes refreshments and a raffle.
