Too many lost souls - both sides - Mankind should live in peace together. They probably would without religious/government interference.
Respect definitely to the young men who got killed going over the top & the one's who refused to - but got shot anyway.
A hundred years on - have we got any better?
I'll leave you all to answer that one, because, frankly I can't :(

You've forgotten that the arms trade is a multi billion pound industry

Funded by governments on all sides to defend themselves

Oh, I'm so sorry, apparently your correct. That would be governments, supported by councils & manufacturors of weaponry which brings lots of money in terms of jobs & exports but does not come with a warning label on the package saying you you must not use these weapons in case of death. If we didn't manufacture arms, we would simply buy them elsewhere.
Yes .its a multi billion pound industry - no doubt we profit from it - but if we didn't make them, would we not buy them from elsewhere?
Sorry Andy, your opinion made no sense to me this time.An undefended country - weaponless - doesn't bear thinking about.
Don't bring Gaza & Palestine into it - atrocious as it is.
Each and every country mostly has weapons to wipe its neighbour out.War is created & caused by religion & politicians, not mankind.
I leave you with this thought - if there was no God, or only one God, would we have the turmoil we have today?

It didn't take long for this worthy topic to degenerate into political ping-pong, did it? Shame on you.

It wasn't in 1914 Andy, and that's what this thread was about.

What those men must have gone through for us, it must have been a living nightmare for them. Some of the stories are terrible, too terrible to comprehend. Still they fought on.
We never ever should forget what we owe to these men.

I think we should also spare a thought for the guys who fought a good fight and were 'lucky' enough to come home. Some with life altering injuries, all with life altering memories. Lives changed forever.

Quite right as well Poppy I was reading about a man who fought in the war and went home only to find a few years later he had to bring up his children alone.
My grandfather brought up his seven children alone and worked after his young wife died, their youngest was three years old.
Some people will never stay down even when kicked.
Bless them all.
I sometimes wonder if we as a nation deserve the sacrifices they made for us.
