Title: On the Buses - again
Post by: Old Cruser on July 19, 2013, 04:19:10 PM
Not often I use the buses into Chesterfield but did today.

I know I have had a rant in the past but todays post is a well done to the driver of the bus into town.

Not only was he friendly he put the ramp down withough being asked and accompanied the wheelchair user to the designated space making sure the w/chair and user were ok!

Now that's how I think it 'should' be done.

Return journey was ok but needed more training on the safety side of things I think.

Anyway 10/10 and thank you driver  :)

Also to stage Coach - you are getting there  :)

At the end of the day, there are no excuses for us not being compliant with disability issues.
We've all had the training (drivers) so I'm glad your experience was happier today :)

Any other problems you have (hopefully none), you can always pass the details on to me, and I'll do what I can.

Thanks Scimitar I am thinking it's either 'lack of training' or just can't be bothered?

I do think though that the driver who took the bus into town had it right don't you?

What we find is that passengers already on don't always want to move their foot/feet, shopping a little out of the way whilst the w/chair user gets into the space - if the driver took charge that maybe wouldn't happen so often.

As I have said before how many other forms of public transport are there where a w/chair user just gets on and does it alone.
Taxi, aircraft, trains and ships assist people on and off I would agree it puts a strain on any driver who has a timetable to keep to and would hope that the bus company allows for w/chair users using the buses when they make them out?

I think the buses to be fair have been put under pressure because of the DDA but safety can't be compromised.

Very happy with today though (mind you it was quiet both ways  :)
