I went to W H Smiths in Ches the other day, bought just one item, nobody on the cash till, so had to self serve, which I did, went off tp the market square, then realised I had left my phone on the pay machine...luckily, the proper cashier came back and rescued it...

Wow that was lucky smithy 266

There's not much to visit Chesterfield for anyway so they will lose out again!

Self service isn't suitable for us. we don't shop every week. When we do go it's two trollies - full.
I really couldn't be bothered with trying to get that through especially if they are only using those small checkout benches.

Just read it Fly..
It says something along the lines of "It may be a criminal offence for a trader to ignore your sign" exactly what I mean about these people pretending not to notice my sign.

As I have about 3 signs on my front door and the same on the "back" door I am really tempted to take the whole lot down and just put one very large sign that says... {put expletive here}

A door bell camera so you can see who is at your door and ignore if appropriate?

Watching the news tonight about police being injured in Scotland when confronted by firework throwing yobs..I rest my case!

That really is bad isn't it. The worst I can remember and yes dangerous but made the lads laugh was to light a jack in the box and put it near one of their mates who obviously jumped around trying to get out of it's way

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: City centre traffic
« on: November 15, 2023, 12:57:47 PM »
Hi all,

Has traffic at rush hour been particularly bad in the last few weeks? My wife just started a new job near the Donut and her commute has taken a long time from Dronfield. I personally do the drive every other day and its never taken too long, but the last couple of weeks it has been really backed up near the college, the big tesco, dronfield bypass etc.

Has it been busier of late or have I just been lucky previously when I did it?

Welcome to the forum  :)

I won't ever understand why people can't accept others religion and life style. The world is big enough for everyone.
What all of these people from both sides is horrendous.. we are fortunate it is not us who are living this nightmare.
I've been to Jerusalem  and  Israel and although it was interesting I also found it a sad experience.

Some of the larger fireworks used to have a warning on about letting them off near residential areas.
They are more for letting off  in a field.
Some near us were louder than our TV last night. One rocket hit the extension wall --and we could clearly see where it had hit the wall. Another was lodged in the leg landis.

Entertainment / Re: Netflix

Just as an afterthought I've been having a spot of bother recently with the my5 channel.

I get onto the channel and select a programme to watch, then about every ten minutes or so the programme cuts out and the my5 logo appears and then the screen goes blank, I have to then repress to get it back plus every time I do I have to sit through numerous ads.

Anyone any thoughts on what's occurring..........is it them or is it me.

I can't answer your question - sorry but can say we are also having issues with our TV/ connection to the box. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes we switch on and there's no sound so we have to switch the power off and on to get sound. Never had these issues before.
I've never had Netflix but have put ITVX into my phone

Chesterfield Discussion / Ravenside

We alll probably saw the photographs of the Ravenside flood. Terrible! After the last time I had it in my mind we were told it had been sorted and wouldn't happen again??
Yesterday we went there as I thought I had read shops were open.
Not true.
It's awful that these shops have suffered so much damage.
I only went for some Ink for my printer as Tesco don't sell it now.
Curry's were obviously closed
Amazon have won again!!

Hubby and I braved the storm and cleared a grate which was threatening to spill over and flood a nearby bungalow. I asked for flood bags for the elderly resident. Twice i went round our village checking roads and feeding back to residents. The following morning saw us on one road which had been flooded, cutting the estate near it off. We went round all the grates and cleared what we could, some were just 'solid'
It was a terrible day! :(
