Here you are - although you may already have these.

The Royal Oak - Shambles in 1898 during restoration.

Second one The Angel Hotel - no longer standing

I was trying to think where the Angel was. Looking through the arch, looks like a row of houses. Then I found this post by Les Elson on FB 'old Chesterfield pics'.

Opposite the Market Hall on the bottom of High Street the Post Office has stood for over a hundred years next to the Angel Hotel with the original (National) Westminster Bank next up. At this time the building and yards of the Angel extended as far as Saltergate.

Nice photos never heard of Angel Hotel . The Royal Oak photo I think theirs one on the wall similar to that one in one of the rooms but to be honest I don't take much notice to busy enjoying my pint!

Angel Yard used to stretch from the Market Place to Saltergate. The Saltergate end is still there - the Barley Mow is at the top of Angel Yard. FWIW
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Royal Oak update : The pub has closed until the 16th February when Steve and Tina who run the Blue Bell will reopen the pub. The selection of beer will be Farmers Blonde, Bass, Moonshine. No mention of food .
