SOLAR ECLIPSE: Derbyshire to be plunged into darkness
« on: February 25, 2015, 04:03:19 PM »
The skies above Derbyshire will be darkened next month during the first partial solar eclipse in 16 years.

About 90 per cent of the sun’s rays will be blocked out by the moon on Friday, March 20 during the rare astronomical event.

The eclipse will last about two hours from 8.40am. The next one will not be until 2026.

Seeing is believing !!

I remember the last time, I blinked driving down Sheff Rd and missed it.
I do hope it's a better show this time. Can't say I've ever witnessed or photoed one  ;)

Cloud shouldn't affect it, as the sun would not be visible, so no light to shine on the clouds.

Anyway, we'll see... or not. ;)

Looking forward to it.

When you hear about distant stars, galaxies etc, it makes you feel so insignificant.

I've noted the date so will see if I can get out with the camera.  Knowing my luck it will be cloudy.

Did anyone go out and watch this?
It was cloudy here and just looked as if we were in for a down pour - that was it.

Anyone had any luck with a photo?

I was waiting for birds to fall from the sky, dogs to start howling and anything powered by electricity to run slow or dim. I'm still waiting.... All that happened was clouds obscured the sun, it got slightly darker and soon afterwards the clouds parted and the sun shone again. I feel cheated.  :(
