KABUL (Reuters) - A secret U.S. military report says that the Taliban, backed by Pakistan, are set to retake control over Afghanistan after NATO-led forces withdraw from the country, The Times newspaper reported on Wednesday.

11 years - and nothing achieved.

Bring our troops home now.

It was being reported the other day that the Talliban was in talks with the Afghanistan govt? They, (the West) haven't even gone anyway to stop the drugs trade, much of the opium coming into Europe comes from Afghanistan. Not just a waste of 11 years, but a waste of money and lives.

Egg on our face again.
I agree, total waste of lives on both sides if this is the case.
Why do we allways suck up to America and get involved?
I know we have to be grateful for their help in WW2, but that was a long time ago.
It's about time we admitted we are no longer a major player in world conflicts (the UK), when there are far bigger players out there who dont get involved, thank you very much (not).
Russia tried it in Afghanistan as I remember and failed.
Why did we think we could sort it - unless everytime America wades in we are obliged to as well.

The western world should have learned from history that no outside country will effectively impose itself on Afghanistan
